I’m far from a trendsetter; in fact as far as pop culture goes I’m more of a lagging indicator. However, when it comes to cars I’ve been known to sniff out a good thing every once in awhile.
If you have Netflix (which again I think almost everyone does), then you’re probably familiar with “instant view”. Since I can’t figure out how to work the mailbox, our household is divided into me watching stuff on instant view, and Christine managing the DVDs. The point of all this is a few recommendations. Part of the inspiration for our latest adventure is a documentary called “Love the Beast”, maybe later I’ll explain how / why. It is about movie star Eric Bana (300?) and a car he has had since he was a teenager. I won’t give too much away but it is really really good. I think it does a nice job of maybe conveying what makes ‘car guys’ tick. Unfortunately it has Dr. Phil who is an absolute moron, but thankfully it has very little of him and he isn’t super annoying. Trust me the rest of the film makes up for it. This is also old news but there is a documentary that Audi produced with the NFL films team (queue Monday Night Football Da Da DUH dun nu dun nu) available for free on iTunes called “The Truth in 24” about the 24 hours at LeMans. Now it is of course a glorified commercial but it doesn’t feel that way. I knew how this race ended and even watched it live and it still was very cool.
Here is BMW’s more limited response, still pretty cool, and it deals with the 24hr at the Ring. A race I (unsuccessfully) tried to get Clay to enter with his old World Challenge cars.

I’ve been subjected to ridicule for my music selections since I was exposed for having Christopher Cross in the truck’s CD player. On the flip side of this some friends were SHOCKED that I would enjoy loudQUIETloud a documentary on the 80’s band the Pixies (also good and on instant view). Finally “The King Of Kong”, if you watch the TV Show “The Office” and thought characters like Dwight Schrute didn’t exist in real life you may be forced to reassess your thinking. The best line I heard about this was “Nerds that have been perfectly preserved.”
I was going to post my iPod playlist to prove how cool I really am, but Craig said no one cared.
